The Zhongye Gallery is designed with two functions in mind; the buildings’ initial use as a sales gallery and its future function as a creative hub, cultural centre and art gallery at the heart of the new development zone. The project is conceived taking into account the industrial heritage of historic North Nanjing, mimicking the urban fabric and simultaneously making a contrast between a solid calm appearance on the outside and a fluid yet exciting interior. A shallow reflection pool, a roof garden and a series of viewing platforms offer the visitor a full panoramic view towards the Yangtze River, a temple and surrounding nature.
