The Mauritsweg Calypso building is situated in the centre of Rotterdam and comprises of a hotel, 407 residential apartments, offices, retail and a redesigned church, the famous Pauluskerk, a local landmark in social integration.
The project was envisaged with a highly irregular form, analogous of rock formations or crystals as a counterpoint to the regular city fabric.
The challenge was to devise a repetitive geometry and suitable facade panel breakup of a triangulated crystalline facade in order to achieve its stunning vision in a cost effective and buildable manner.
